Colorado…so much to love! Part 1

We had a truly wonderful time in Colorado this past week. We went on several hikes, stayed in an oasis of an Air B & B (it was truly pretty much perfect), ate good food, and enjoyed wonderful company with Luke and Mary.

On our first day, we visited Roxborough State Park and Dinosaur Ridge. The red rock formations and ancient dinosaur prints provided a glimpse of what the area looked like 100 million years ago…something I struggle to wrap my mind around!

The next day, Bill, Luke and I went to Eldorado Canyon State Park for a couple of hikes in that area. This park seems to be especially popular with rock climbers.

If you look close, you can see the rock climber in a red shirt.

Our next day was spent with Luke and Mary in the Idaho Springs area. We started with a hike to St. Mary’s Glacier (a super cool little hike with gorgeous views of snow covered mountains and a glacier lake) followed by a delicious meal at Beau Jo’s Pizza (Colorado style pizza at its best!) I wish I had taken a few pics of Beau Jo’s, as it has this rambling, very western hotel type atmosphere that embodies the expansive western vibe.

Sunday was spent in Golden where we enjoyed a nice breakfast at Sassafras American Eatery that sits next to Clear Creek. While waiting for our turn to be seated, we dipped our toes in the icy creek.

I snapped this picture of what I *think is Creeping Mahonia (Oregon Grape)
